Burial and Cremation Records

Information on burial and cremation records in East Dunbartonshire is available from several sources:

Monumental inscriptions

In areas where parish registers of burials are defective, gravestones are often the only source of pre-1855 information. Both Bearsden Library, and the William Patrick Library, Kirkintilloch, hold published lists of monumental inscriptions for Dunbartonshire and West Stirlingshire and both hold some lists covering other parts of Scotland. A detailed typescript listing of inscriptions in Baldernock Churchyard (both before and after 1855) is held by both libraries.

Cemetery records

East Dunbartonshire libraries also hold a number of local burial registers. Particularly useful are the detailed registers for the Old Aisle Cemetery, Kirkintilloch, covering the years 1863-1922. Some graveyard plans are held at the William Patrick Library, including examples for Baldernock, Cadder, Campsie, Lennoxtown and the Old Aisle. Modern cemetery records are held by Connect Services, Ground Maintenance, Broomhill Depot, Kirkintilloch.
