Edlc trust development centre

East Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust Development Centres are up and running for the new term.

The centres provide players in primary six, seven and First year the opportunity to begin their journey through the association’s performance pathway and into the Scottish FA's 20/20 Centre Programme.

After 2 successful years, the current format of Scottish FA 20/20 Development Centres have been reviewed, and subsequently a decision has been made to vastly reduce the number of Centres across Scotland. The underlining impact that it has on East Dunbartonshire is that any player successful in being selected for a Central Region Centre would have to travel to either Falkirk or Motherwell. These venues have been selected as they sit alongside the National performance schools which the 20/20 Centres are designed to ready players for.

The reality is that many player’s, and more importantly parent’s, would see this as a critical problem in entering the squads. Since starting last year, East Dunbartonshire has worked with around 70 players for a period of between 30 and 60 weeks, receiving quality coaching, and thus 2 players reaching the later stages of the selection process for the National Performance Schools.

We have therefore continued the programme on in our own capacity.

“The centres are there to compliment the good work being done by clubs across the country.

“This is a long-term commitment by us to provide the ideal environment for young players to begin their journey on the pathway.”

The programme includes weekly two-hour training sessions over a 36 week period with a responsibility on the attendees to commit to regular practice.
