Work with us

Want to get involved in teaching swimming? Teaching swimming can be very rewarding and is a great career of course, it is also an excellent opportunity to earn some extra money in a fun and challenging way. We are always on the lookout for new staff to give lessons to all age groups read on to see if it’s for you!

I have a swimming qualification, how can I start teaching?

If you hold a UKCC Level 1 or 2 qualification, or an ASA equivalent you can apply for a paid position. All vacancies are advertised on My Job Scotland [opens in a new window] and we do this several times a year, so register your interest on the website.

I do not have any qualifications but I do have an interest in the sport, what can I do?

We can offer opportunities to help on poolside in order that you can ‘have a go’ and see if swimming teaching is for you. After an informal chat with our staff we would identify the most suitable way forward and agree a plan. Ultimately we would envisage volunteers to progress through to formal qualifications and start teaching with us – and getting paid!

Who can apply?

Absolutely anyone, all you need to have is a passion for swimming, enjoy working with children and adults, and seeing people learn and develop.

We have had children coming to volunteer through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme and going on to gain qualifications and eventually teaching with us, to parents of children in lessons wanting to get more involved. So anyone from 14 years of age can get involved!

Are there any restrictions?

Due to the nature of the job, anyone applying will be subject to certain checks to ensure their suitability to work with children and young people.

If you are interested please contact Swimming Development for an informal chat.
