Our children’s multi-sports classes runs for 40 weeks of the year, taking breaks during the school holidays.

The classes we offer can be found below with details on times, venues, cost and availability. Please note classes are available on a first come first served basis and classes with limited availability may already be full.

Sports

We offer bookable squash courts at Allander and Leisuredrome.

Children’s class

We hope to be able to offer some children’s squash classes after the summer break. Classes will be available to children in P4-7 with links into the local Allander Squash club. To register your interest please contact Allander@eastdunbarton.gov.uk

Children's lessons

Mini Tennis red, orange, green and full court available for children aged 6 to 14 years.

Introductory/Beginners

Fun and games aimed at those new to the sport as well as those who have mastered the basics of the game. Contains co-ordination, movement, racquet and shuttle skills and an introduction to singles and doubles play. For ages P1+.

Improvers/Intermediate

A course aimed at those with a firm grasp of all the major shots and a good understanding of the rules.Players should be competent at high/low serves, overheard clears, drop shots and be comfortable playing a rally of six shots or more. Aimed at S1 to S4 age group, however younger players may be promoted to the class based on their performance. For ages 11yr+. (All players will receive a progress report after week 6 and 12)

Badminton Games Classes

Badminton Games is aimed at those in P7 and above who have played badminton before. It’s a supervised session with one of our EDLC badminton coaches and the focus is on playing games of badminton (both doubles and singles). There will be a small element of group coaching in these classes but the majority will be games. All equipment will be provided if you don’t have your own racquet.

There are various opportunities in East Dunbartonshire to take part in Athletics.

Huntershill and Merkland athletics track are available for hire and individual use. Please check your local leisure centre pages for more information.

Childrens Classes

We offer Run Jump Throw clubs for children in P1 to P7 at two of our leisure centres.

During the school summer holidays we run week long camps which include athletics. Details can be found in the Holiday Programme section.

The classes cater for all primary age children and working on passing, positions and games, all the while having fun.

A chance for secondary school aged pupils to participate in netball games with their peers with small inputs of coaching from our community sport staff.

New classes for Netball

We provide recreational courses at our Leisure centres, after school clubs within our primary schools and also link with the local netball clubs.

Our recreational courses will take place on a Monday at both Allander Leisure Centre and Leisuredrome, Bishopbriggs.

We will be working with Active Schools to provide come and try blocks in the rest of East Dunbartonshire. Please keep an eye out for these and we will be publicising them through the schools.

Our classes will cover the basics of passing dribbling and shooting, as well as playing small sided games. Included within the games will be understanding the rules and learning the court. All sessions will be delivered through fun games and activities.

Children's Classes

We offer Mini Basketball for age 8-12 and Basketball for age 12+

In addition to these sessions we work with the Active Schools team and provide 4 week blocks of after school sessions throughout the year. These sessions will be advertised directly through the schools, so keep an eye out for these.

As well as the classes run by EDLC, Glasgow Fever Basketball Club run sessions for U12's in the Bearsden/Milngavie area. More details can be found on their website.

Sports Development Classes (Additional Support Needs - ASN)

There are various classes run by EDLC that cater specifically for children with additional support needs.

We have multi-sport, swimming and gymnastics classes available. In addition to this we have details of classes available in West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde.
